Nike is celebrating the 2026 US Open by putting a Back to the Future aesthetic on Andre Agassi’s iconic 1990s tennis shoe, the Air Tech Challenge 2.
The colorway draws directly from Marty McFly’s legendary Nike Mag with Photon Dust covering most of the upper and accents of White, Dusty Cactus, Picante Red, Sundial, and Blue Tint mixed throughout.
While the shoe carries speckled details running along the sides, and the heel features blue Nike branding lifted straight from the film, the execution remains a quieter interpretation than what one might expect. No glowing panels or gimmicks, just the color story doing the work.
Nike has explored this theme before. The Vapor 12 Hypersmash “Mag,” a high-performance hard-court tennis model, got a similar treatment recently, with a comparable palette.
What’s different about this release, however, is its choice of canvas. The Air Tech Challenge 2 is a silhouette synonymous with Andre Agassi and the audacious stretch of early ’90s tennis footwear, a time when what players wore on court was its own kind of statement. Placing a movie prop reference on this timeless tennis shoe connects two distinct eras of Nike showmanship.
The Mag remains one of Nike’s most mythologized designs, while the Air Tech Challenge 2 stands as one of its most recognizable tennis models. The US Open is a fitting stage for that meeting.
The shoe drops on September 4 at $170 USD in the Photon Dust/Dusty Cactus-Picante Red-White colorway (SKU: IX4084-025). It will be available through Nike SNKRS and select retailers worldwide.
