Marvel and Oreo are releasing a limited-edition cookie on Feb. 2 that changes color as you eat it, and the transformation happens without any warning on the package.
The crème starts out gray… A few bites in, and it turns blue. The cookie is part of a new collaboration called Stuf of Legends, and it comes in several collectible Marvel-themed box designs hitting store shelves next month.
The color shift is the hook, but it’s not the only thing different. Each cookie is stamped with one of 32 designs pulled from across Marvel’s universe. Some are obvious — Captain America, Iron Man, and the like. Others dip into X-Men and Fantastic Four territory. Logos, faces, symbols, and all. It’s the kind of detail people actually stop to look at before taking a bite off the cookie.
The rollout isn’t especially loud. Three package designs hit shelves first. A fourth exists, but you won’t see it right away, ’cause it’s locked behind a QR code printed on the box, which sends you to a Marvel site tied to a sweepstakes. The prize isn’t a toy or a poster. It’s the chance to build a Marvel-themed “command center” at home.
What you’ll find in stores:
- Stuf of Legends Oreo cookies with color-changing creme
- 32 different embossed character and logo designs
- Multiple box designs released in phases
- A QR code entry tied to a Marvel sweepstakes
The cookies themselves don’t come with instructions or explanations. You open the pack. You eat one. Somewhere along the way, the color changes. That’s about it.
Marvel, which operates under Disney, has leaned into everyday products more aggressively over the past few years, particularly with a growing number of movies and series scheduled for release across its calendar.
Although a cookie isn’t exactly a centerpiece, it’s smaller, cheaper, and harder to avoid. And Oreo doesn’t really need a reason beyond that. People already stare at their cookies before eating them. Now there’s one more reason to pause for a second.
You notice. It turns blue. You keep eating.
