Pardon all the puns I’m about to bestow upon you in this review, but the 2024 Motorola Razr series is flipping fantastic. These two phones aren’t just the best flip phones of the year – but in my opinion, they’re also amongst the best phones of the year.

Over the past year or so, the market has become saturated with many flips and foldable smartphones, and we’ve tested many of them, yet Motorola’s 2024 Razr series has emerged as a true standout. This is because these sleek flips are not just any typical foldable; they’re a fashion statement that seamlessly blends nostalgia with the best of phone design and usability.

I’ve been using the 2024 Motorola Razr series since their launch dates back in the summer, and I’m completely smitten with both devices. So much so that the 2024 Razr has become my primary device.

That said, I consider the standout model of the 2024 Razrs to be the more affordable 2024 Razr. If you ask me, this is the flip that every should be getting right now. It’s also one of the most under-appreciated phones on the market.

A Flipping Fantastic Design

The 2024 Razr+ and Razr are both, without a doubt, the most beautifully designed phones on the market right now.

Both models come in an assortment of beautiful colors that you won’t find anywhere else. For instance, the Razr+ is available in a bold “magenta” color that gives off 90s nostalgia vibes and odes to the original Razr. I’m particularly fond of the bold and unique “Orange Spritz” color option of the more affordable Razr model. It catches the eye and sets it apart from a sea of mundane smartphones.

I can not begin to tell you how many times people have stopped me over the past couple of months to marvel at the design of these phones and their eye-catching colors.

Both of the device’s slim profiles and curved edges provide comfortable grips that make them a joy to hold and use, easily sliding into pockets with grace. Inside you get a beautiful, vivid 6.9″ display with a crease that is barely visible and minimal bezels. The inner display’s real estate hits the sweet spot – it’s large and spacious when unfolded, but thanks to its foldable form factor, it’s truly pocket friendly.

External Displays

Motorola has increased the display size on the 2024 Razr+ model to 4.0” so that it covers practically the entire cover. The result is a truly premium, almost futuristic look.

The external display on the more affordable 2024 Razr, while slightly smaller than the Razr+ at 3.6”, proves to be more than adequate. As a matter of fact, it’s larger and more inutitive to use than Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6’s 3.4″ cover display, yet the Razr costs $400-$500 less!

My only gripe here is that the cost to replace a broken external display on the 2024 Razr series is a small fortune. I accidentally dropped and damaged the 2024 Razr+ model and was shocked to discover that it costs $399 to get it replaced from Motorola.

Customization King

One of the 2024 Razr series’ strongest suits is its incredible customizability. From themes and colors that can automatically match to your photo and style, to Motorola’s useful gestures, to its flex mode, and tent mode, this phone truly adapts to your style and needs. To that effect, the Style Sync feature takes personalization to another level, ensuring your phone is as unique as you are with matching wallpaper. Essentially, the Razr’s external display software is highly customizable, effectively extending the phone’s functionality as a fashion accessory.

Usability At Its Finest

The cover screen’s UI has been vastly refined from last year’s model, making it much less clunky and much more intuitive to operate. You can easily operate most important tasks directly from the cover screen, making it incredibly convenient for quick interactions, so much so that I regularly find myself using the cover screen to check my email, messages and manage apps, more so than I have on other cover displays that I’ve tested in the past.

Ultimately, Motorola has crafted what might be the best external screen UI on a flip phone. The beautiful interface, combined with the phone’s form factor, makes the 2024 Razr series a shining star in terms of usability. The UI is both beautiful and super intuitive to use – much more so than what I’ve seen on any of its competitors external displays to date.

Performance That Impresses

Both Razrs offer significant performance and camera improvements over their processors. The pricier Razr+ offers the super speedy Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset while the 2024 Razr model also offers improved overall performance thanks to being powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300X chipset which is likewise very capable.

Battery and Camera

When it comes to battery, the more affordable Razr model boast a slightly larger battery compared to its Razr+ sibling, ensuring you stay powered throughout the day. Both models offer a solid day of battery life with moderate to heavy use.

Now let’s talk about a big issue we’ve had with previous Razrs – the cameras on previous Razr models have consistently been our biggest gripes with the series. That said, both models in the 2024 Razr series offer a significant improvement when it comes to photography.

While these cameras simply can not compete with top-tier flagships, they are more than adequate for everyday photography. Ultimately, you won’t be hard-pressed to get some great shots from the 2024 Razrs, just don’t expect them to be flagship level.

That said, we’re a bit miffed that the pricier Razr+ model omits an ultrawide angle camera in exchange for a telephoto lens. However, an ultrawide angle lens can be found in the more inexpensive 2024 Razr. As a matter of fact, the cheaper Razr model’s camera is really very good, especially at its price point. And in most shots we feel that the Razr’s photos offers more natural colors than its pricier sibling.

The Verdict

Priced at $699 – $599, the 2024 Razr offers exceptional value. Its price point makes it a phenomenal deal considering its sublime design and its significant improvements over last year’s model that include a larger external display, a more premium design and improved performance. The 2024 Razr model is practically a steal for how good it looks and everything it offers.

As a matter of fact, the 2024 Razr is superior to competitors like the pricier Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, offering better usability in both hardware design and usability. The 2024 Razr is the most underrated foldable on the market, and quite simply, a fantastic phone that’s worthy of carrying its iconic namesake.

If you don’t mind shelling out the extra cash, The more premium 2024 Razr+ model is absolutely gorgeous too and brings with it a better camera overall and a bit of a bigger external display.

I can’t help but ponder; If Apple had come out with a phone akin to the 2024 Motorola Razr series, I’m certain it would’ve been hailed a technological marvel, and a game changer. It’s really a shame that not enough people in the U.S. are aware of these two gems – especially since the more affordable 2024 Razr model is a superb value for everything it offers – this phone simply doesn’t look and operate like a $699 phone.

Ultimately, the 2024 Motorola Razr series are the flip phones everyone should be clamming for. They both offer sexy-as-hell designs along with everything you’d want from a flip phone – excellent usability, design, and performance – without breaking the bank – especially if you go for the cheaper Razr. While the cameras may be just okay and replacing the external screen is expensive, these minor drawbacks are easily overshadowed by the 2024 Razrs’ overall excellence.

The Motorola Razr+ is currently on sale for just $799, and the Razr for $599. These prices are a steal for what you’re getting. Grab them on sale while you can.
