McDonald’s is selling dog toys in France.
The fast-food chain rolled out a limited set of chew toys called Happy Doggy at French locations in late November. The collection includes four items, each modeled after familiar McDonald’s products: fries, a burger bun, an apple-pie shape, and a sundae-style ball.
The toys aren’t sold on their own. Customers can add one to a Maxi Best Of meal for €3.50, while supplies last.
The launch marks the first time McDonald’s has offered a pet product. The company hasn’t announced plans to make the toys permanent, and availability is limited to France for now. Of course, we’d love to see the chain bring this to these dog toys to the U.S.
The campaign was developed with DDB Paris, McDonald’s long-running creative partner in the country. Promotions appeared across TV, digital placements, outdoor ads, social media, and the McDo+ app. One of the toys, the fries-shaped chew, was released first through the app before the rest reached restaurants.
The designs are small and functional. They’re meant to be used, not displayed. Each one mirrors a menu item closely enough to be recognizable without extra branding.
In a statement announcing the release, McDonald’s France CMO Jean-Guillaume Bertola said:
“‘Happy Doggy’ is our way of celebrating those unique bonds and turning each moment into a happy memory. We are proud that France is the first country to offer this collection, which fits fully within the brand’s DNA while answering our consumers’ expectations.”
McDonald’s has a long history of pairing meals with non-food items, but those efforts have traditionally focused on children. Happy Doggy shifts that idea toward pet owners, offering something that leaves the restaurant with the customer — and the dog.
The company hasn’t shared sales figures or indicated whether similar items will appear in other markets. For now, the toys remain a short-run add-on, available only while inventory lasts.
Whether Happy Doggy returns or expands beyond France remains unclear. At the moment, it’s simply a new item at the counter — one that squeaks instead of fries.
