For one of the rarest moments in The Simpsons’ history, Maggie Simpson finally speaks… again — and this time, the voice belongs to none other than Lindsay Lohan. Though Maggie has uttered a word or two in scattered episodes over the past 36 years, the show’s latest episode gives her a more substantial line, delivered with Lohan’s signature charm. Curious how this iconic character’s few spoken words came to life? Read on for the full story.

Lindsay Lohan brings Maggie Simpson’s voice to life

Parahormonal Activity, the eleventh episode of The Simpsons’ 37th season that premiered on December 14, 2025, delivered one of the most extraordinary moments in the show’s 36-year history: Maggie speaking in full sentences with a celebrity voice. In this flash-forward installment, an older Maggie voices her worries about brother Bart’s driving, breaking her long-standing silence with lines performed by Lohan.

“Please! Don’t let Bart drive,” the Lohan-voiced Maggie says in the episode. “It’s too scary. He drives so wiggly, and everybody honks at us, yells bad words, and shows us their fingers.”

In an Instagram post promoting the episode, Lohan shared her excitement about the guest role: “What a dream come true to be part of this iconic family,” she wrote, alongside a photo of The Simpsons family inside a car from the episode.

Other notable times Maggie Simpson actually spoke

Lohan’s recent guest role as Maggie marks one of the few times the famously silent toddler has spoken in The Simpsons’ long history. While her lines in Parahormonal Activity grabbed headlines, Maggie has occasionally voiced her thoughts in select episodes over the years. Here’s a look back at every notable moment she has actually spoken:

  1. Bart vs. Thanksgiving (Season 2, Episode 7, 1990)

In this early episode, Maggie doesn’t speak in normal continuity, but in a fantasy/imagined sequence, Bart, wracked with guilt after ruining Thanksgiving, imagines Maggie blaming him aloud: “It’s your fault I can’t talk!” This moment, voiced by Carol Kane, is non‑canonical but stands out as one of her first spoken lines in the series.

  1. Lisa’s First Word (Season 4, Episode 10, 1992)

Arguably the most iconic Maggie moment, this flashback episode reveals Maggie’s very first spoken word in canonical Simpsons history. After Homer leaves the room, baby Maggie softly says “Daddy.” The line was voiced by Elizabeth Taylor, making it one of the rare times Maggie speaks in the show’s regular continuity.

  1. The Simpsons Movie (2007)

At the end of The Simpsons Movie, Maggie briefly talks during the credits, saying “Sequel?” in a playful nod to fans. This single word was voiced by Nancy Cartwright, who normally supplies Maggie’s non‑verbal sounds as well as voicing Bart.

  1. Four Great Women and a Manicure (Season 20, Episode 20, 2009)

In a non‑canonical fantasy segment parodying The Fountainhead, Maggie is reimagined as “Maggie Roark,” where she defends her architectural ambitions with a surprisingly articulate monologue. In this surreal setting, Maggie is voiced by Jodie Foster, delivering extended dialogue far beyond her usual baby noises.

  1. Treehouse of Horror Episodes (Various Years)

In the annual Treehouse of Horror specials — which are deliberately non‑canonical — Maggie has had several extended speaking moments:

  • In Treehouse of Horror V, James Earl Jones voiced Maggie with the line “This is indeed a disturbing universe,” in the “Time and Punishment” segment.
  • In Treehouse of Horror IX (“Starship Poopers”), Harry Shearer provided Maggie’s voice in an alien‑themed twist.

These segments are comedic and alternate‑reality in nature, not reflective of the series’ main continuity.

Are we going to see Maggie Simpson speak more often?

Based on The Simpsons’ long history, it’s likely that Maggie speaking will remain a rare and special treat. Her few spoken moments have traditionally been reserved for flash-forwards, fantasy sequences, or celebrity cameos, making each appearance a noteworthy event. With Lohan’s recent guest role generating buzz, fans can hope for more occasional lines in future episodes — but any new words from Springfield’s famously silent toddler will surely be treated as a memorable milestone.

The current 37th season of The Simpsons airs Sundays at 8 PM ET/PT on Fox, with episodes also available to stream on Hulu after broadcast.
