LEGO is expanding its lineup of Nintendo-inspired sets with a new collectible aimed squarely at adult gamers and builders. The Mario Kart – Luigi & Mach 8 set is now available for preorder at $180, with shipping expected to begin on April 1. Designed as a display-worthy build, the set recreates Luigi behind the wheel of the Mach 8 kart from the beloved Mario Kart series.

With more than 2,200 pieces and a large-scale design, the model captures the excitement of Mario Kart racing while doubling as a decorative piece for fans. Whether you’re a longtime Nintendo player or a LEGO collector, the set blends gaming nostalgia with an immersive building experience.

A Large-Scale Luigi and Mach 8 Kart Build

The Mario Kart – Luigi & Mach 8 (72050) set features a brick-built Luigi figure sitting behind the wheel of the Mach 8 kart. Luigi’s head, arms, and hands are posable, allowing you to adjust the figure for different display poses once the model is complete.

The kart itself is designed with authentic details inspired by the Mario Kart games. You can place the finished model on a display stand that angles the vehicle as if it were racing on a track. And if you’d like to interact with the build, the kart can be removed from the stand and rolled across a surface.

Interactive Details and Moving Features

Beyond its display value, the set includes several interactive elements. The steering wheel allows the kart to turn left or right, while the flame exhaust spins automatically when the vehicle moves forward.

These features help recreate the motion and energy of a Mario Kart race, giving the model a more dynamic feel than a traditional static display.

Designed for Adult Builders and Collectors

With 2,234 pieces, the Luigi & Mach 8 set is designed primarily for adult LEGO fans and experienced builders. However, newcomers can still tackle the build with help from the LEGO Builder app, which offers digital step-by-step instructions.

You can also zoom in, rotate the model in 3D, and track progress via the app. Once finished, the completed model measures over 10 inches high, 16 inches long, and 9 inches wide. This makes it a sizable display piece for a home office, gaming room, or collector shelf.

Part of a Growing LEGO Mario Kart Collection

The Luigi & Mach 8 model pairs with another large LEGO Mario Kart build, the Mario & Standard Kart set, which is sold separately. Together, the two models expand LEGO’s growing collection of Nintendo-themed sets designed for adult fans.

Preorders for the LEGO Mario Kart – Luigi & Mach 8 set are now open, with shipping scheduled to start on April 1. For gamers who grew up drifting around Rainbow Road or launching blue shells at friends, this set offers a creative way to bring a piece of the Mario Kart world to life in brick form.
