Krispy Kreme has jumped on the solar eclipse bandwagon, and we’re totally here for it!

Earlier this week, Krispy Kreme announced that it has partnered with Oreo for a very special doughnut to help Americans celebrate the highly anticipated total solar eclipse happening on Monday, April 8.

What is Krispy Kreme’s Total Solar Eclipse Doughnut?

Krispy Kreme’s Total Solar Eclipse Doughnut is a limited-edition doughnut inspired by the upcoming total solar eclipse. It is basically Krispy Kreme’s Original Glazed Doughnut dipped in black chocolate icing, adorned with silver sprinkles, piped with a buttercream made with Oreo pieces, and a whole Oreo cookie in the center.

“Eclipses are rare and so is our out-of-this-world Total Solar Eclipse Doughnut,” said Dave Skena, Global Chief Brand Officer for Krispy Kreme, in a press release announcing the one-of-a-kind treat. “Even if you can’t be in the path of totality you can get in the path of these treats, which you will eat in totality. Stop by and get some for you and some to share so you can flex your science side and great taste at the same time.”

Krispy Kreme celebrates space-related events through the years

This isn’t the first time Krispy Kreme has created an all-new doughnut in celebration of a total solar eclipse. In 2017, to celebrate the last total solar eclipse experienced in the United States, the doughnut chain “eclipsed” its iconic Original Glazed doughnut in mouth-watering chocolate glaze for the first time ever.

Back in 1969, Krispy Kreme also served fresh Original Glazed doughnuts at the launch viewing site of NASA’s Apollo 11 Mission to the moon. More recently, in 2021, the brand dropped the limited-time Mars Doughnut in honor of NASA’s Perseverance Rover landing on the red planet.

In 2022, the doughnut chain showed its support for NASA’s Artemis I flight around the moon by making the Artemis Moon Doughnut. In the same year, Krispy Kreme acknowledged astronomers for releasing the first-ever image of a supermassive black hole that resembled an Original Glazed Doughnut by giving the doughnut away for free.
