KFC has launched a breakfast cereal designed to be eaten with gravy poured on it.
Called KFCereal, the limited-edition product is a collaboration between KFC UK and Surreal, a high-protein cereal brand. The flavor comes from the same 11 herbs and spices used on the fast-food giant’s Original Recipe chicken. Milk is still an option, but gravy is the serving method KFC is actively promoting.
“Our 11 herbs and spices have been doing a pretty good job on chicken, so we thought we’d see what they could do for breakfast,” said KFC brand manager Elspeth Allen in a statement. “We wanted to take something people know and love and give it the KFC treatment. And what better way to do that than with a bowl of cereal and a pot of our iconic gravy?” Allen added.
For something dreamed up at a fried chicken chain, the label reads pretty clean, offering nineteen grams of protein and only one gram of sugar per serving.
Even so, KFC has gone weirder than this before. It has turned its gravy into ice cream, sold toothpaste that tasted like fried chicken, stuck a chicken fillet between Oreo-style buns in China, and built an entire Simpsons menu around a doughnut burger.
For those curious enough to try it, a box of KFCereal costs £6, shipping included, and is available exclusively on Surreal’s UK website while stocks last.
Anyone outside the UK is out of luck for now, as KFC has not announced plans to sell it anywhere else.
