After five long years of heartbreak, confusion, and soggy substitute fries, KFC is making things right. Starting next week, Potato Wedges—the fan-favorite side that never should’ve left—are officially back on the menu nationwide. And that’s not all. The chain is also reviving its Hot & Spicy Wings to kick off football season with a crispy bang.

The Potato Wedges saga has haunted KFC since 2020, when they unceremoniously disappeared in favor of Secret Recipe Fries (which were… fine, but nobody asked for them). Fans didn’t take it lightly. There were petitions, tweetstorms, and comment sections full of wedge grief. Now, five years and a lot of crunchless sadness later, the wedges are back—and they’re bringing backup.

The Hot & Spicy Wings made their debut two years ago with a fiery marinade and a double coat of extra-crispy breading that basically dared your taste buds to tap out. They vanished quietly, but not forgotten. KFC’s bringing them back just in time for football season, a strategic move that feels less like marketing and more like a peace offering to spice lovers everywhere.

KFC’s calling it their Kentucky Fried Comeback, and not a moment too soon. With same-store sales down 5% last quarter—and eight quarters of flat or declining numbers before that—the colonel’s house has been in need of a serious shakeup. While Chick-fil-A, Popeyes, and rising stars like Dave’s Hot Chicken have been stealing headlines and chicken-loving hearts, KFC’s been plotting a return to icon status. The answer? Give the people what they want.

And they’re not stopping at wedges and wings. There’s a new $20 Wings & Wedges Fan Favorites Box built for group orders (or just an ambitious solo feast): 10 spicy wings, 12 nuggets, wedges, biscuits, and dipping sauces. A six-piece combo with a drink is also hitting menus, along with a game-day digital exclusive starting September 4—20 wings and four sauces for $20.

Oh, and $10 Tuesdays are still a thing. Eight pieces of chicken or tenders for a ten-spot. Not bad if you’re on a budget and craving comfort food that hits like 2015.

This all feels less like a limited-time stunt and more like a “we screwed up, here’s your stuff back” moment. Whether it’s enough to win back the wedge warriors and wing diehards remains to be seen—but one thing’s clear:

KFC is done playing it safe.
