Your next vacation video could have an editor in the camera itself. Insta360 has unveiled the X6, a new flagship 8K 360 camera that goes beyond just capturing everything around you. It can use AI to turn hours of footage into finished highlight clips while the camera charges.
Yes, you can finally outsource the editing headache to the camera.
The X6 goes on sale August 12 starting at $699.99, and Insta360 is pitching it as a do-it-all camera for creators who don’t want to carry a 360 camera, action cam, and gimbal everywhere they go.
One camera, three personalities
The X6 isn’t really just a 360 camera. It can work as a 360 camera, a subject-tracking gimbal camera and a traditional single-lens action camera, with the mode switching happening with a tap.
In 360 mode, it can record at up to 8K at 50fps, capturing the entire scene around you. Instead of worrying about framing the perfect shot while you’re recording, you can decide what angle you want later. If you somehow missed the shot, you can reframe it. Want three different angles from the same moment? You can have it.
The AI editor is the real star
The X6’s most interesting feature is Insta360 PanoMind, the company’s new AI system designed specifically to understand 360-degree footage. The company says PanoMind was trained on more than 10,000 hours of footage across more than 30 scenarios, including travel, cycling, motorcycling, diving and winter sports.
Now, 360 video is a different beast from ordinary video. Instead of looking at a single rectangular frame, the AI has to understand an entire spherical scene. Plug the X6 in to charge, and its AI Director can analyze the footage stored on the camera and automatically create a highlight edit.
The finished clips are then sent to the Insta360 app. And because the processing happens on the camera rather than in the cloud, your footage does not need to take a detour through some mysterious server farm just to get edited.
It can also shoot like a normal action camera
Sometimes you don’t need to capture the entire universe. The X6 can switch to single-lens mode and record up to 5K at 60fps, with a field of view reaching 170 degrees. It can also shoot 4K at 120fps for slow-motion footage.
There is also InstaFrame 2.0, which automatically tracks people, pets and objects and produces flat 4K footage straight from the camera. That means you can potentially get a conventional video without opening an editor and manually reframing a 360 clip.
Pair it with the company’s new Foldable Selfie Stick Remote Kit, and the joystick gives you gimbal-style control without carrying an actual gimbal.
The hardware got seriously upgraded
The X6 uses custom dual Sony 1/1.1-inch square sensors, giving it 33% more sensor area than the previous X5 and significantly more light intake per frame. That should be particularly useful when you are shooting after sunset, indoors or in situations where your camera has to deal with wildly different lighting.
There is also a new triple-chip setup with one 8-core 4nm processor and two dedicated imaging chips. According to Insta360, the system delivers 500% more computing power than the X5, while using 35% less power. The camera is also the first 360 camera with native Dolby Vision recording, along with 10-bit color and more than 1.07 billion recordable colors.
Your camera can survive the adventure, too
The X6 is waterproof to 20 meters on its own and can reach 60 meters with the Invisible Dive Case Pro. Its new 2,600mAh Xtreme Battery can record up to 140 minutes of 8K30fps 360 video, according to Insta360, while fast charging can take the battery from empty to 80% in 24 minutes.
It can also operate in temperatures as low as -20°C (-4°F). And because nobody wants to spend hundreds of dollars replacing a scratched camera lens after one unfortunate encounter with a rock, Insta360 has made the X6’s replaceable lenses more scratch-resistant and cheaper to replace than the previous generation. There’s even 47GB of usable built-in storage out of the 64GB total, so you can start recording without immediately hunting for a microSD card.
It is packed with accessories
Insta360 is launching the X6 with access to more than 100 accessories, covering everything from cycling and motorcycling to diving and car-mounted shooting. There is a motorcycle setup with a speed dashboard overlay, automatic license-plate blurring and dashcam functionality.
Cyclists can add performance data from devices such as Garmin and Apple Watch. For divers, the Invisible Dive Case Pro lets the camera go down to 60 meters. And if you want to stick the camera to your car, there are suction-cup mounting options designed for temporary installation.
The cloud gets an AI upgrade too
If the camera’s built-in AI isn’t enough, Insta360 is also introducing Moments Pro, a cloud-based editing tool built with Google Gemini. Instead of letting the AI decide everything, you can tell it what kind of video you want by specifying a subject, mood, style and timeframe.
So rather than manually assembling a travel montage, you could essentially tell the software what you are going for and let it build the video.
Shoot everything, figure out the framing later
The X6 starts at $699.99, with additional bundles available. And if you buy and activate it before September 30, 2026, Insta360 says you will also get one year of 500GB Insta360+ Premium cloud storage and three months of Moments Pro at no extra cost.
For travelers, vloggers, motorcyclists, and anyone who regularly returns from a trip with 700 clips they will absolutely never edit, this sounds like a worthy investment.
