Hemlock Grove is no longer streaming on Netflix.
As announced by the streaming service in September 2022, the horror series officially left the platform in October of that year.
Why was Hemlock Grove removed from Netflix?
Launched in April 2013, Hemlock Grove was one of the first original series that Netflix put out that year, with House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black as the two others. While some fans may find it weird that a Netflix original has been removed from the service, such removal is actually normal. In fact, over 60 Netflix original shows and movies have already left the platform for different reasons.
Though Hemlock Grove is a Netflix original, the underlying rights to the show are owned by Gaumont International Television, with the streamer only serving as the program’s exclusive distributor. Apparently, Netflix’s distribution deal with the studio expired in October 2022, which explains the departure of the series from the platform.
Where to watch Hemlock Grove
As of January 2023, no platform is streaming the complete three seasons of Hemlock Grove in the United States. But the first season of the show is available to stream on Hoopla. Season 1 of the series is also available for purchase on Apple iTunes, Amazon Video, Vudu, and Google Play Movies.
The complete three seasons of Hemlock Grove will soon be available to stream across FilmRise branded OTT channels, after the company struck a non-exclusive deal with Gaumont International Television in November 2022 to license the AVOD and FAST rights of the series.
What is Hemlock Grove about?
Based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Brian McGreevy, Hemlock Grave examines the strange happenings in the titular fictional town in Pennsylvania. Roman Godfrey, the heir to the town’s wealthy Godfrey family, befriends the town’s newcomer, Peter Rumancek. Recent brutal murders in the town have stirred up rumors, and the two work together to shed light on the case while also hiding their own dark secrets.
The live adaptation of the novel was developed by Brian McGreevy himself, along with Lee Shipman. Both McGreevy and Shipman also wrote episodes for the series.
McGreevy and Shipman also served as executive producers on the show, alongside Eli Roth, Charles H. Eglee, Eric Newman, Michael A. Connolly, Deran Sarafian, Mark Verheiden, and Peter Friedlander.

Why did Hemlock Grove get canceled?
Netflix didn’t provide an explanation for its decision to end Hemlock Grove with season 3. But Screen Rant reported that the show’s poor critical reception likely influenced the streamer’s move to ultimately pull the plug on the TV series, even though its viewership wasn’t really that bad.
Despite its plot-related negative criticisms, Hemlock Grove earned a number of nominations for visual effects, music, and acting. In 2013, the series was nominated for Outstanding Special Visual Effects and Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music at the Primetime Emmy Awards. In 2015, Madeleine Martin was nominated for Best TV Supporting Actress at Fangoria Chainsaw Awards and the series received a nod for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Photoreal/Live Action Broadcast Program at the Visual Effects Society Awards.
