Has Y: The Last Man been canceled or renewed for season 2? 1

Y: The Last Man is ending after its first season.

Showrunner Eliza Clark announced on Sunday that Hulu opted not to renew the post-apocalyptic drama for season 2 after the show appears to have failed to get the attention the streaming service had hoped for.

“We have learned that we will not be moving with FX on Hulu for season 2 of Y: The Last Man,” Clark wrote in a statement she posted on Twitter. But since there is much more story to tell, Clark said they are “committed” to finding a new home for the show.

Although it’s too early to tell whether or not Y: The Last Man will be picked up by another streamer or network, Clark said “that someone else is going to be very lucky” to work with their team and continue telling the story of Y: The Last Man.”

Y: The Last Man is about gender, about how oppressive systems inform identity,” Clark said of how the show differs from other post-apocalyptic dramas out there, before flexing about how diverse and talented the series’ cast and crew are.

“We had a gender diverse team of brilliant artists, led by women at almost every corner of our production: producers, writers, directors, cinematographers, production design, stunt coordination, and more,” shared Clark. “[And] it [Y: The Last Man] is the most collaborative, creatively fulfilling, and beautiful thing I have ever been a part of. … I have never experienced the remarkable solidarity of this many talented people.”

Based on the comic book series of the same name by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, Y: The Last Man takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious cataclysmic event simultaneously killed every mammal with a Y chromosome but for one man – Yorick Brown (Ben Schnetzer) – and his pet monkey Ampersand. The series follows Yorick as he traverses the new world, as its survivors struggle with their losses and attempt to restore world society—led by Yorick’s mother, who is the new U.S. President, Jennifer Brown (Diane Lane).

Aside from Schnetzer and Lane, Y: The Last Man also stars Ashley Romans as Agent 355, Olivia Thirlby as Hero Brown, Juliana Canfield as Beth DeVille, Elliot Fletcher as Sam Jordan, Marin Ireland as Nora Brady, Amber Tamblyn as Kimberly Campbell Cunningham, and Diana Bang as Dr. Allison Mann.

The penultimate and final episodes of Y: The Last Man are scheduled to drop on Hulu on October 25th and November 1st, respectively.
