A batch of ground beef sold in six states is being pulled from distribution after federal testing turned up a possible E. coli contamination.

The recall covers 2,855 pounds of grass-fed ground beef produced by Mountain West Food Group, an Idaho company, and shipped to distributors in California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Pennsylvania, and Washington.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the issue surfaced during routine sampling. Lab results showed the presence of E. coli O26, a strain linked to stomach illness that can include diarrhea and vomiting. More serious complications are possible, though less common.

Fortunately, no illnesses have been reported so far.

The affected product comes in 16-ounce, vacuum-sealed packages sold under the Forward Farms label. Packages are marked with a use-or-freeze-by date of January 13, 2026, along with EST. 2083 printed on the side.

Consumers who bought the beef are being urged not to eat it. The USDA says it should either be thrown away or returned to the store where it was purchased. Anyone feeling sick after eating ground beef and concerned about symptoms should contact a healthcare provider.
