A familiar phrase appears to be returning at Walt Disney World, in one part of the park, at least.
A video shared on X (formerly Twitter) this week by Disney fan account Theme Park Cheetah suggests the Magic Kingdom Express Monorail has resumed using the greeting ‘Ladies and Gentlemen.’ during its standard onboard announcement.
The phrasing had largely disappeared from park announcements in recent years.
Disney hasn’t made an official statement about the change so far, and it remains unclear whether the greeting is being restored more broadly or if the monorail is using an older recording that has remained in circulation.
The traditional address was phased out around 2021, when Disney began shifting toward more neutral language across its rides, shows, and transportation systems in its parks. Among the changes at the time was an update to the Magic Kingdom fireworks show, where “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls” was replaced with “Good evening, dreamers of all ages.”
A legacy built on first impressions
The monorail, which links Disney resorts and park entrances to the Magic Kingdom, has evolved its narration since debuting in 1971 with the legendary voice of Jack Wagner, known as the ‘Voice of Disneyland,’ through subsequent narrators Kevin Miles, Matt Hansen, Joe Hursh, and current voice Tom Kane since 2012, accompanied by script tweaks to highlight new resort additions and technical upgrades.
The ride serves as many guests’ first and last impression of the Magic Kingdom, gliding above the Seven Seas Lagoon and offering sweeping views of the park and surrounding resorts. Often called Disney’s ‘highway in the sky,’ the system is the world’s most heavily used monorail network, transporting roughly 150,000 guests per day and nearly 20 to 25 million annually since opening in 1971.
