Buzz Cerana 2 review: This $999 e-bike is a steal for city commuting

The Cerana 2 makes electric biking accessible without the premium price tag

Sometimes the best products aren’t the ones loaded with every feature imaginable. They’re the ones that understand their purpose and execute it really well. That’s exactly what Buzz Bicycles has done with the Cerana 2, a no-nonsense cruiser e-bike that knows what it is—and more importantly, what it isn’t.

At $999 (currently on sale), the Cerana 2 positions itself practically as a steal, and certainly it’s a great accessible entry point into the world of e-bikes.

Clean design

The first thing that struck me about the Cerana 2 is how it manages to look better in person than it does in photos. There’s something about its unassuming design that photographs just can’t quite capture successfully. The dusted moss green color option is particularly lovely—it’s attractive without being boring and distinctive without screaming for attention. In a market where e-bikes are increasingly trying to look like something out of a sci-fi movie, the Cerana 2’s classy, understated aesthetic is very refreshing.

The step-through frame with its 15-inch low step-over height makes mounting and dismounting genuinely effortless. I was able to hop on and off this bike repeatedly without a second thought, which is exactly the point. Yet, I’ve struggled to do so with many other larger e-bikes. Accessibility shouldn’t feel like a compromise, and here it doesn’t.

Weighing in at a manageable 63lbs weight and sporting dimensions that won’t dominate your apartment or garage, the Cerana 2 feels very appropriately sized for city life. It’s certainly not trying to be an off-road beast.

The riding experience

Let’s talk about what matters most –  how it rides. The Cerana 2 offers easy acceleration that feels supremely intuitive right from your first pedal stroke. The 500-watt hour battery paired with the center-mounted LCD display gives you the information you need without overwhelming you with data you don’t care about. You get speed, battery life, pedal assist level— all at a quick clear and readable glance.

The thumb throttle is genuinely useful for those moments when you need a break or you’re navigating a tricky intersection. Th bike supports up to 20 mph without pedaling. That isn’t going to set any speed records, but it’s perfectly adequate for typical urban commuting.

Here’s where I need to be honest about limitations – the front suspension does its job for city streets, but this isn’t an off-road machine. The lack of rear suspension means you’re going to feel every pothole and crack in the pavement more than you would on a full-suspension bike. So if your commute involves unpaved trails or particularly rough terrain, you might want to look elsewhere. But for navigating city streets, bike lanes, and the occasional park path – this e-bike is more than capable and comfortable to ride.

One small gripe – the handle grips could be softer. After longer rides, my hands started to hurt. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s worth mentioning, especially since aftermarket grips are relatively inexpensive and easy to swap out.

The practical stuff

What also makes the Cerana 2 particularly appealing for city riders is the ecosystem of storage accessories available for it. Buzz offers panniers, baskets, and racks that integrate cleanly with the frame. This modular approach means you can start simple and add cargo capacity as you realize you’re using this bike for grocery runs, commuting with a laptop, or weekend errands.

The 48V electrical system with 10.4 amp hours gives you respectable range for daily use – up to 40 miles. For most urban riders who can charge overnight, range anxiety shouldn’t be an issue.

The front and rear mechanical disc brakes provide reliable stopping power. But they’re not the hydraulic systems you’d find on higher-end bikes, but they get the job done consistently.

What you’re not getting (and why that’s okay)

The Cerana 2 doesn’t come with many high-end bells and whistles, and that’s actually part of its appeal. There’s no integrated GPS tracking, no smartphone app, and no airlock like what you get with the pricier Segway Xafari, and no fancy lighting system beyond basic functionality. What you get instead is a straightforward e-bike that focuses on doing one thing well – getting you around the city comfortably and reliably.

This stripped-down approach also means fewer things to break or require updates. In an era where everything wants to be “smart,” there’s something comforting about a product that just works without requiring you to download an app or create an account.

The Bottom Line

The Buzz Cerana 2 isn’t going to win any awards for cutting-edge technology but it’s not trying to. What it does offer is reliable urban transportation at a price point that makes electric biking accessible to a much wider audience.

At its current sale price of $999, it’s an absolute steal. Even at its regular price of $1,499, it represents solid value for someone looking to ditch short car trips or make their commute more enjoyable. The step-through design, manageable weight, and easy acceleration make it genuinely approachable for riders of varying experience levels.

Is it perfect? No. The grips could be better, and if you need serious off-road capability, look elsewhere. But for city riding—which is what it’s designed for—the Cerana 2 delivers exactly what it promises without pretense or inflated claims.

Sometimes the best products are the ones that understand their lane and stay in it. The Buzz Cerana 2 does exactly that, and the result is a reliable, practical e-bike that makes urban cycling accessible and enjoyable. If you’re looking to electrify your city commute without complicated features or a high price tag, the Cerana 2 deserves serious consideration.
