Bowers & Wilkins today announced a slew of new hi-fi speakers based on the company’s Formation Wireless Technology. Engineered for whole-home hi-fi audio, the Formation Suite boasts a number of proprietary networking and synchronization technologies that enable wireless high-res streaming.
The inaugural launch includes the Formation Bar, Duo, Wedge, Bass and Audio, but Bowers & Wilkins said that there are even more new products yet to come.
The Formation Wedge is highlighted by an innovative 120-degree elliptical speaker design, and it supports AirPlay 2, Bluetooth with AptX and Spotify Connect. When it comes to its stunning organic design, there is no other speaker on the market quite like it. To our eyes, the Wedge is a spiritual successor to Bowers & Wilkins’ iconic Zeppelin Wireless speaker. The Formation Wedge will retail for $899.
Featuring nine drive units, the $1,200 Formation Bar is a soundbar designed to offer a wide sonic soundstage with a focus on placing the listener in the center of the action.
The $4,000 Formation Duo is a wireless version of the company’s leading wired speaker.
Lastly, we have the $1000 Formation Bass and the $700 Formation Audio, both designed to add a bit of oomph to the aforementioned products.
We got to preview and listen to the entire Formation Suite, and unsurprisingly, all of the genres we listened to sounded superb. With that said, we were most impressed with the powerful yet balanced room-filling sonics coming out of the relatively small Formation Wedge.
