Arby’s is adding the Angus Cheesesteak Meal to its permanent menu and giving away 100,000 of them for free. The sandwich, which began as a limited-time test last year, recently hit stores nationwide after strong sales convinced the chain to make it a regular offering.

As with most promotions, this one comes with a catch: To get the free meal, Arby’s Rewards members must spend $10 or more between June 17 and June 19 or while supplies last. Anyone can join the program by texting STEAK to 27297.

Jeff Baker, Arby’s CMO, said in a statement regarding the relaunch, “Last summer, our limited-time cheesesteak became one of the most popular items we’ve launched. We’ve decided to bring it to the permanent menu for our guests every day, and we took the opportunity to make it even better.”

To ensure authenticity, the chain sent its team to Philadelphia to study how locals build the sandwich. Baker said they wanted the real Philly as a benchmark.

The result is an all-new seasoned Angus Cheesesteak that uses thinly shaved, seasoned steak topped with American Cooper cheese (also known as Cooper Sharp), thick-cut caramelized onions that go on top, all of which sit atop an Amoroso’s sesame seed roll (the same bread used at cheesesteak shops in Philly).

Company leadership seems to be equally enthusiastic about the addition to the core menu. David Graves, the brand president, told Allrecipes earlier this year that the original limited version was his favorite menu item Arby’s had ever made. He added that even though he still orders the Classic Roast Beef most days, the cheesesteak is the one that stuck with him.
