Apple’s had a thing for making gadgets smaller and smarter since, well, forever. But their latest experiment might be their most ambitious miniaturization act yet. And no, it’s not another iteration of the iPhone mini that nobody asked for.

The tech giant is reportedly working on a small, wearable AI assistant that you could pin to your shirt and forget about. Until it starts talking back, anyway. The device is still early in development and may never reach the market, but people familiar with the project say it is being designed to run Apple’s next-generation Siri chatbot.

How It Would Work

The pin is described as a thin, flat disc with an aluminum-and-glass body, slightly thicker than an AirTag. It would include two front-facing cameras — one standard lens and one wide-angle — along with three microphones to capture sound around the wearer.

A built-in speaker would allow the device to play audio, and a physical button along the edge would provide manual control. Like the Apple Watch, the pin is expected to support wireless charging.

Apple reportedly wants the final hardware to stay close to AirTag dimensions, though there is currently no built-in clip or attachment mechanism. That could change as development continues.

The device is said to be capable of operating on its own. Its cameras, microphones, speaker, and button would allow it to function without being tethered to another Apple product, though it’s unclear whether Apple would sell it as a standalone device or bundle it with future hardware, such as smart glasses.

If it launches, the pin would likely rely on the revamped Siri experience Apple plans to introduce in iOS 27.

Apple has not publicly said anything regarding the project.

AI wearables have struggled to gain traction so far, but interest across the industry remains high. OpenAI, for instance, is working with Jony Ive on a small AI-focused device, while Meta has pushed into AI-powered glasses. Amazon has also experimented with wearable AI hardware, including its Bee bracelet.

Apple’s pin, if released, would put the company directly into that emerging category. The Information, which first reported the device’s development, notes that a launch could happen as early as 2027, but cautions that the project remains in its early stages and could still be scrapped.
