Middle Way Electronics, a brand that sells electrical multi-outlets and power strips, is recalling about 5,543 CCCEI-brand power strips according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) after receiving two reports of the units sparking and melting. No fires or injuries have been reported.

The recall follows a product safety warning issued by the CPSC on March 5, 2026, after Middle Way Electronics initially declined a full recall plan.

The risk stems from a critical missing feature. The multi-socket does not have overcurrent protection, the built-in safety component that cuts power when too many devices draw electricity from the same source at once. Without it, an overloaded strip has nothing stopping it from overheating. Two reports of sparking and melting are what triggered the recall.

The units were sold on Amazon between April 2024 and January 2026, priced between $23 and $30. It featured a black metal casing with six individually switched outlets, available in 6-foot, 10-foot, and 15-foot cord lengths according to the recall notice issued by the CPSC.

Most people buy a power strip, plug it in, and forget about it. Behind the TV, under a desk, in a corner with six things running off it. That’s not usually a problem. But a strip missing this key safety component raises the risk of overheating and fire considerably.

Consumers with one of these multi-sockets should stop using it immediately. Middle Way Electronics is offering refunds. Affected parties can contact the company at CCCEIpowerstrips@outlook.com. The recall covers all three cord lengths and applies to units bought during that two-year window on Amazon.
