Korea is world renown for its innovative skincare products and high standards for beauty, and a new Korean skincare line is about to further challenge the industry with an unusual ingredient.

HA:L, a new skincare line from SMHAEL, uses a breakthrough ingredient dubbed RPS.3 (short for Ribosomal Protein small Subunit 3). This proprietary ingredient was accidentally discovered by a research scientist at Korea University, while seeking out an anticancer treatment.

Dr. Jun Kim spent 30 years researching a cancer cure and during the course of his work he ended up finding RPS.3, a hydrophobic peptide that aids in repairing skin cell damage and relieving skin inflammation, and offers a skin restoration effect.

The company touts products that help recover skin damage by stimulating increased collagen production while simultaneously providing anti-inflammatory effects. SMHAEL goes as far as saying that their HA:L line, thanks to its collagen synthesis production ingredient, can keep you looking 10 years younger.

But it won’t just keep you looking youthful – in their testing, wounded, scratched, or burnt skin that was treated with the product was shown to completely recover after 48 hours.

The skincare line includes products for preventing wrinkles, moisturizing, and reducing scarring, all of which can be mixed together and used in tandem. The HA:L products can also help prevent and get rid of pimples.

SMHAEL says that all the ingredients are vegan, sustainable, and safe enough to be used on babies.

At present, the company holds 7 patents for cosmetic products, and they’re in talks to work with bigger companies like L’Oréal and Chanel. Their CEO explained to us that their key ingredient can easily be integrated into other products, and his hope is that other companies will welcome RPS.3 into their own skincare lines.

Folks in the U.S. will soon be able to purchase the HA:L signature skincare set on Amazon for around $233 for a monthly kit. That’s by no means cheap, but what would you pay to look 10 years younger?
