Deadline is reporting that a new Flash Gordon film may be in the very early stages of development.
While it’s unknown if the upcoming film will be a reboot, remake, or sequel, we can report that Julius Avery is now pegged to serve as writer and director.
According to sources, the Australian filmmaker recently pitched his idea to higher-ups at Paramount. The studio heads were so thrilled with Avery’s vision that he was immediately put in charge of the proposed project, replacing director Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class), who will now fill the producer role.
Since his introduction in the 1930s, Flash Gordon has been featured in a number of comics, novels, and television shows. Most recently he starred in a show that aired on Syfy, however, execs pulled the plug after just one season. His last silver screen appearance was nearly 40 years ago, dating back to December 5th of 1980.
