Macaulay Culkin hasn’t played Kevin McCallister since 1992, but that cinematic hiatus may just come to an end.
On his podcast, The Town, entertainment journalist Matthew Belloni revealed that Disney is ‘salivating’ over a potential Home Alone return for the actor. According to Belloni, Culkin was recently spotted on the Disney lot, where he reportedly pitched a project that left studio executives impressed.
“I’ve talked to people who’ve heard it and it’s a really good idea for a Home Alone reboot with Macaulay Culkin,” Belloni said during a recent episode of The Town (The Future Blockbusters Draft, Part 2).
A role reversal decades in the making
The pitch isn’t new, exactly. Culkin had previously laid out his version of a sequel in November 2025 during a stop on his A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin tour. In that version, Kevin is a single dad whose son feels neglected and locks him out of the house. Kevin must then work his way past the kid’s booby traps, which Culkin framed as a metaphor for reconnecting with his son’s heart.
The premise deliberately inverts the original. In the 1990 film, young Kevin was the child left behind while his family flew to Paris. Now he’d be the parent who wasn’t paying attention.
Culkin appeared in only the first two installments of the franchise, Home Alone (1990) and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992). Four more films followed, including Home Alone 4 (2002), which recast Kevin with Mike Weinberg. None of the later entries, however, approached the success of the originals.
The franchise’s most recent installment, Home Sweet Home Alone (2021), is a Disney+ original starring Archie Yates as Max Mercer and Devin Ratray as Buzz, Kevin’s older brother, who is now a police officer, a thread that could theoretically connect to a Culkin-led project.
Culkin himself has stayed active with Disney lately, voicing Cattrick Lynxley in Zootopia 2 (2025), which grossed $1.87 billion worldwide. He’s also joined the Season 2 cast of Prime Video’s Fallout (2024-Present), appearing as Lacerta Legate.
