The United States doesn’t turn 250 every day, so it makes sense that big brands are already scrambling to outshine each other even if we’re months away from the Fourth of July.

Case in point: Coca-Cola is putting out a limited-edition series of 52 mini cans, one for each state, plus Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico, along with custom America250 bottles. The collectible designs appear on both formats as part of the new limited-edition America250 packaging.

The mini cans became available starting April 6, 2026, and are rolling out nationwide at major retailers, including Walmart and Target. They will be around throughout 2026.

Each design features a local symbol worked into the Coca-Cola imagery: California gets a surfer, Wisconsin gets a block of cheese, Minnesota gets the eight-pointed star from the state flag, North Dakota features a mountain laurel, the state flower… You get the drill.

Some symbols will be immediately obvious to locals. Others probably won’t mean much if you’re not from there. The mini cans come in 7.5-oz sizes in Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, and Coke Zero Sugar varieties. Regular 12-ounce cans aren’t part of the series, though.

More Than Just a Can

Coca-Cola is a signature partner of the America250 initiative, the bipartisan effort organizing the country’s semiquincentennial celebrations. The beverage giant is running a sweepstakes alongside the can release. Prizes include an $80,000 vehicle credit toward a 2026 Jeep Wrangler and collectible pins featuring the state symbols.

Entries can be submitted by scanning Coca-Cola packaging or cups, or without a purchase at all, through the company’s website.

Since the initiative is a yearlong nationwide celebration, the company is also committing to significant community impact initiatives, including volunteer programs focused on food insecurity, disaster relief, sustainability, youth empowerment, and honoring military members and veterans.

Coca-Cola has also set a goal of supporting 250,000 volunteer hours in 2026 through its bottlers and community partners.

Fifty-two designs are a lot to get right. A surfer for California and cheese for Wisconsin are safe calls. Whether the choices for less visually obvious states land as well is another question, though probably not one Coca-Cola is losing sleep over.
