Sonos is introducing a new portable speaker that aims to strike the perfect balance between size and performance. The newly launched Sonos Play is designed for those who want powerful, room-filling sound in a speaker that’s still easy to carry from place to place. Now available at Crutchfield for $299, the Play sits right between the compact Roam 2 and the larger Move 2.

With its mix of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and long battery life, the Sonos Play is built for both home listening and outdoor use. Whether you’re relaxing in the backyard or moving room to room, the speaker aims to deliver consistent performance in a more manageable size.

A Balanced Sonos Design for Indoor and Outdoor Use

The Sonos Play is designed to be portable without sacrificing sound quality. Its size makes it easy to carry in one hand while still delivering fuller, more powerful audio than ultra-compact speakers.

It features two angled tweeters and a mid-woofer, which creates a wider soundstage and more balanced audio. The speaker is also IP67-rated, meaning it’s both waterproof and dustproof, making it suitable for outdoor use, poolside listening, or travel.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for Flexible Listening

Like other Sonos speakers, the Play includes built-in Wi-Fi for seamless integration into a home audio setup. When connected to Wi-Fi, you can control the speaker through the Sonos app, stream from various services, and sync it with other Sonos speakers around the house.

The speaker also supports Bluetooth 5.3 for on-the-go listening, allowing you to stream music directly from a smartphone or tablet. It also includes Apple AirPlay 2, making it easy for Apple users to stream content from iPhones, iPads, or Macs.

Up to 24 Hours of Battery Life

Battery life is a major highlight, with the Play offering up to 24 hours of playback on a single charge. And it comes with a charging base, making it easy to dock and recharge when not in use.

The battery is also replaceable, which adds to the device’s longevity. Additionally, the speaker can double as a power source to charge your phone while on the go, adding extra convenience for outdoor use.

Smart Features and Voice Control

The Play includes built-in microphones for Sonos Voice Control, allowing you to control playback hands-free. It also supports automatic Trueplay tuning, which adjusts the speaker’s sound based on its surroundings when connected to Wi-Fi.

With the introduction of the Play, Sonos now offers a more balanced portable option that sits comfortably between its smaller and larger speakers. The combination of durability, strong battery life, and flexible connectivity makes it a versatile choice for both casual listeners and enthusiasts. Now available for $299, this portable speaker offers a new option for those who want powerful sound in a more portable form factor.
