KFC recently gave fans a quick taste of its beloved Potato Wedges again—this time in an ultra-short 72-hour flash promotion that ran from December 9–12. The chain turned it into a high-urgency test, explicitly asking customers on social media to “campaign” in the comments and explain why the wedges deserve a permanent spot on the menu.
The thick-cut, seasoned wedges were discontinued in 2020 during a broader menu simplification, prompting ongoing complaints from customers who preferred them to traditional fries. Since their removal, Potato Wedges have remained one of the most frequently requested items on KFC’s social channels.
From Summer Trial to 72-Hour Test
Earlier this year, KFC briefly returned Potato Wedges to menus during the summer as a limited-time offering alongside Hot & Spicy Wings. This return was marketed by KFC as its “Kentucky Fried Comeback,” a strategic move timed to coincide with the start of football season. The snack sold strongly during that window but was removed again after the promotion ended.
Now, looking at the fast food giant’s latest tease, where it reintroduced Potato Wedges through two new promotional meals centered on chicken wings, things are looking up for fans.
The chain reportedly stated that it would closely monitor customer response (including thousands of passionate social comments) to determine whether the item could finally return as a permanent menu option.
The first offer, the Wings & Wedges Promotion, was priced at $9.99 and included six chicken wings, a dipping sauce, a drink, and a side of Potato Wedges. The Wings & Wedges Box was priced at $20 and included 10 Hot & Spicy Wings, 12 chicken nuggets, four biscuits, four dipping sauces, and Potato Wedges.
With the 72-hour window now closed and no permanent return announced yet, the battle for Potato Wedges’ full comeback continues—fueled by the strong fan outpouring during this strategic test.
