Sources told Reuters in May that Lord & Taylor plans to liquidate inventory in its 38 department stores once restrictions to curb the spread of coronavirus are lifted. The luxury department store chain has reportedly lined up liquidators to help it run the “going out of business” sales and is said to be girding to permanently close all its stores once the merchandise is sold. It was also reported that the retailer is holding off on a bankruptcy filing until it can reopen its stores and generate more sales before a potential complete business shutdown.
