Netflix has officially announced Bubble, an upcoming anime feature film that will exclusively premiere on the streaming service next year.
Bubble creative team
Though not the first anime content to debut on Netflix, Bubble can definitely become the streamer’s best original anime movie of all time just based on the heavyweight names that make up its creative team.
Bubble is directed by Tetsuro Araki and is written by Gen Urobuchi. Araki is best known for directing the popular anime series Death Note, Highschool of the Dead, Attack on Titan, Guilty Crown, and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, while Urobuchi is highly regarded for his award-winning screenplays for the series Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Psycho-Pass: The Movie.
Bubble also features character designs by Takeshi Obata and music by Hiroyuki Sawano. Obata gained international attention for illustrating the manga series Hikaru no Go, Death Note, and Bakuman, while Sawano became one of Japan’s most sought after composers after creating the musical scores for Attack on Titan, Blue Exorcist, Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, and The Seven Deadly Sins, just to name few.
Bubble voice cast
Bubble’s Japanese voice cast includes Jun Shison (Ressha Sentai ToQger), Mamoru Miyano (Death Note), Yuki Kaji (Attack on Titan), and Tasuku Hatanaka (Ultraman Z). Their respective characters, however, are yet to be announced.
The story is set in Tokyo, after bubbles that broke the laws of gravity rained down upon the world.
Cut off from the outside world, Tokyo has become a playground for a group of young people who have lost their families, acting as a battlefield for parkour team battles as they leap from building to building.
Hibiki, a young ace known for his dangerous play style, makes a reckless move one day and plummets into the gravity-bending sea. His life is saved by Uta, a girl with mysterious powers. The pair then hear a unique sound audible only to them.
Why did Uta appear before Hibiki? Their encounter leads to a revelation that will change the world.
