Illustrator and concept artist Fernanda Suarez has created an awesome illustrated series in which she draws what your favorite Disney princesses would probably look like if they existed in 2019. Her magnificent artworks draw inspiration from contemporary trends set by her favorite style vloggers and brands.
“I wanted them to truly feel like people you would find on the streets nowadays,” Suarez said during her conversation with BuzzFeed.
Here’s a closer look at how the most popular Disney princesses would probably look like had they walked amongst us today:
Belle comes across as the perfect girl-next-door. With curious eyes and messed up brown hair, modern-day Belle looks like she’s still just as independent and headstrong, and still a total book-worm. She reminds us of Natalie Portman.
Modern-day Ariel is just as mischievous as the original one! With twinkling blue eyes and a sly grin, she is still quite playful. Notice how she is rocking a crab tattoo as an ode to Sebastian, and some gorgeous shell jewelry too!
Not surprisingly, the 2017 version of Mulan gives off a kick-ass, care-free attitude.
We’re getting a Kardashian vibe from modern-day Jasmine. And how adorable is the kitty version of Rajah!?
The modern-day version of Pocahontas looks fierce and like someone we would not want to mess around with. We love her arrow themed jewelry and tribal tattoo – she’s totally on trend.
#6 Snow White
Just us, or does she kinda remind you of Veronica from Riverdale?
Cinderella or Ivanka Trump wannabe?
#8 Alice in Wonderland
Alice is technically not a Disney princess, but she might as well be Disney royalty anyway. Fortunately, Fernanda’s version of a modern-day Alice is apropos. Notice how Alice’s Starbucks-esque drink has been rebranded as the “Mad Hatter Tea Co”.
Where’s the toad you ask? Modern-day Tiana hasn’t forgotten about her prince – her belt buckle is a silent nod to the story of the princess and the frog.
Modern-day Tinkerbelle might not have fairy wings, but her backpack helps make up for that.
Modern-day Moana looks super cool in her strapless crop top that shares a similar color palette with the character’s signature outfit in the 2016 movie Moana. Though Moana traded her shredded-pandana skirt for a casual khaki bottoms, her overall attire still has a Motunui touch to it, thanks to her purse that seems to be made with native materials from her birthplace.
This modern-day reimagining of Esmeralda looks very identical to her animated version, but much more alive. To achieve the 21st-century look, the artist dressed the street performer in trendy clothes and accessories, including a sling bag that looks a lot like her tambourine and a keychain that represents her ever trusty pet goat Djaili.
