Died: August 4th, 1962

Age at death: 36

Cause of death: Barbiturate overdose

Several celebs who died young struggled with substance abuse and one of them was Marilyn Monroe. The actress was found dead in her bedroom by her housekeeper Eunice Murray and psychiatrist Dr. Ralph Greenson in the early morning of August 4th, 1962. Her toxicology report showed that the cause of her death was acute barbiturate poisoning, and because the dosages found in her body were several times over the lethal limit, the possibility that she had accidentally overdosed was ruled out.

Best known for playing comedic blonde bombshell characters, Monroe became one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s and early 1960s. Long after her death, Monroe continues to be a major icon of pop culture and is considered as one of the greatest female screen legends from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
