Died: November 24th, 1991

Age at death: 45

Cause of death: Bronchopneumonia as a complication of AIDS

On the evening of November 24th, 1991, about 24 hours after revealing that he had been diagnosed with AIDS in 1987, Freddie Mercury died at his home in Kensington in London. The cause of death was bronchial pneumonia resulting from AIDS.

Considered as one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music, Mercury was the lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. Known for his flashy stage persona and four-octave vocal range, he defied the conventions of a rock frontman. Aside from being the frontman of Queen, Mercury also wrote several hit songs for the band, including Bohemian Rhapsody, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Don’t Stop Me Now, Somebody to Love, and We Are the Champions.
