Hulu announced last January that Shrill is ending with its upcoming third season, which is set to premiere on May 7th. A reason for the cancellation was not revealed, but the heavy workload of series star Aidy Bryant was probably one of the factors that led to the decision to end the series.

Since Shrill launched in early 2019, Bryant, who writes, produces, and stars in the series, had been pulling double duty. She filmed the first two seasons of the Portland-based comedy while Saturday Night Live was on hiatus, enabling her to be back in 30 Rock for the SNL season. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, filming for the third season was moved to the fall of 2020, preventing her to appear in SNL for its run of election-themed episodes.

Based on Lindy West’s book Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman, Shrill centers on Bryant’s Annie Easton, a woman who seeks out ways to change her life without changing her body.
