Alec Guinness – $50 million (Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, 1997)
Alec Guinness’ salary for his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original Star Wars movie is considered as one of the biggest Hollywood paydays when adjusted for inflation. Despite being dismissive of the project, Guinness agreed to appear in the movie with a $3.3 million paycheck. But after some negotiations with the movie’s writer and director George Lucas, Guinness managed to increase its salary with 2.25 percent of the film’s box office return, earning a total initial payout of $50 million.
With a production budget of just $11 million, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope grossed $775 million at the box office worldwide.
